Lockdown is lifting and we are on the move again. We might not be getting abroad this summer, but there are so many romantic spots right here in the UK… You just need to know where to find them!
One of the things that we missed most when we were all staying home was travelling. Nothing beats exploring a new place, especially if you can do it with one you love. There is something incredibly romantic about embarking on an adventure with that special someone and building new memories together.
Here at Eco Wood Rings, we love packing our bags and getting away from it all. You can read all about our magical connection with Australia here. It even inspired some of our beautiful rings! There are so many places on our travel list; it’s time to dust off those flip-flops and get ready to go.
However, even with lockdown lifting and some semblance of normality returning, lots of couples will feel more comfortable staying in the UK this summer. We are completely on board with this sustainable option. We often underestimate this little island, but if you look closely, you will see that it is home to some extraordinary hidden gems.
Think London and we think Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern and the London Eye. But when you step away from the river, you will find that there are plenty of other beautiful spots to see, some of which are incredibly romantic.
One of these spots is the Hampstead Pergola located on the edge of Hampstead Heath in North London. It was once a private garden, but now it is open to the public and entry is free.
The landscaped garden and stunning views are guaranteed to take your breath away. We recommend waiting for a sunny day and coming with a picnic. Don’t forget the champagne!
If you are feeling extra romantic, you can even get married here as it is a licensed wedding venue. Why not exchange a pair of gorgeous hand-crafted ethical rings? We might know where you can get some…
You’d be forgiven for thinking that the rolling white sands of the beach are located on some tropical isle, rather than on the east coast of England. Zanzibar, eat your heart out.
It would be possible to spend weeks at Holkham which has a myriad of things to see and do - and to finish each day with a walk along the incredible coast. The Earl of Leicester, whose family still live in Holkham Hall, is passionate about renewable energy and has done great work to make sure that this idyllic spot remains as green as possible.
Unlike some of the beaches of the UK, Holkham remains one of its most unspoilt. This is the ideal place to escape, recharge your batteries and reconnect with your partner.
Even if you’re not a history buff, it is difficult not to be awed by Kirkstall Abbey, an incredibly well-preserved and imposing monastery which is over 800 years old. Standing at its centre, you are suddenly transported into the bustle of days gone by and filled with awe at the fact that it is still standing.
It’s romantic because it endures - just like your love will. Pack a cold cider and sit at its edge philosophising about time with your lover. Then take out your camera and snap some beautiful photos.
The abbey also has wonderful facilities but is not usually overrun with tourists, especially if you can visit during the week. Admission is free. It is also available for wedding blessings. Just mentioning this very important fact!
We know most people go to Cornwall for the beautiful beaches and Cornish pasties, both of which are well worth the long journey. However, if you would like to inject some magic and mysticism into your adventures at the same time, we wholeheartedly recommend a visit to St Nectan’s Glen.
An area of outstanding natural beauty, St Nectan’s Glen combines beautiful waterfalls with perfectly preserved woodlands and is known throughout Cornwall as a sacred and spiritual place where, if you’re lucky, you might just see a fairy in the water.
Even on the occasions when it is a little busier with tourists, there is an undeniable sense of peace and calm throughout the glen. We challenge anyone to visit and not feel rejuvenated and revived.
Once you are finished with your visit, head to the Tree of Life Cafe, a beautiful, wooden building, completely at one with its surroundings. Sit down with your loved one and order a Cornish cream tea. Just try not to argue too much about how to pronounce the word ‘scone’.
If you and your loved one prefer a more active break, why not try the Formartine and Buchan Way, which follows the railway line from Aberdeen onto adventures aplenty?
Entirely off-road, the cycle path winds through charming villages and its 40 mile distance can be completed in one day or spaced out depending on your preferences.
If the sea is calling you, there is the option to travel on to Fraserburgh or Peterhead from Maud. Fraserburgh has a particularly beautiful stone lighthouse.
This is just one of many stunning cycle routes in Scotland and around the whole of the UK. We love the feeling of freedom that comes from riding a bike and the amazing places that you can explore which simply aren’t accessible by other modes of transport.
There are so many more wonderful places to explore in the UK. Check out @thebritishbucketlist on Instagram which features gorgeous holiday spots from across the kingdom.
When you find a special spot, please share your photos with us. We love to see the places you go. And if you do find the perfect place to hold your wedding, we are available to provide you with beautiful, one-of-a-kind rings, made just the way you want them.
